It just seems that while there is newer music I like,it doesn't really mean anything much to me compared to stuff from a while back.

My OH played Weekender when he DJed at our friends wedding - he forgot that it ends with swearing so had to turn it off quickly before the relatives noticed.

Not if you call him an indie DJ. He wasn't pleased when I called the night he played at an indie night. No idea what to call it instead though without sounding pretentious - I think he may have mumbled something about 'avoiding labels'. He played a lovely set of soul & motown before his indie/dance classics set at this wedding.
