A Chic Retreat

I knew it would happen. Having previously vowed to forego a holiday this year, I have found myself thinking about a little break. With the moving and decorating stress, I feel that I will soon need (and indeed, deserve) a little holiday and yesterday I found myself browsing holiday websites. In particular, this one - Chic Retreats. Why did I have to look at this site. Everywhere on it looks beautiful. Some of them are wildly expensive but others are affordable for a mini-break if (and this is a very big if) we get our deposit back from our rented flat (there is no real reason why we shouldn't get it back but its always a struggle with landlords & letting agents).

So thoughts of boutique hotels have temporarily pushed aside thoughts of curtains, cushions and rugs.

Its particularly sickening on a cold grey day like today.

We were not able to get together while I was in London, but I had packed a small gift for both of you, just in case it worked out -- Before we left Florida, I went down to the beach and scooped up some sand and put it in a double plastic bag. It didn't sound like you were going to make it to the beach this year (atleast Miss F), so I thought I'd bring the beach to you.

It didn't work out for us to meet up, but maybe next time. :)

If only it were so easy to pack up the essence of place in a small bag! I could be instantly transported to a beach while sitting at my desk.

Out of interest, what would you put in a bag that is quintessentially London? (And don't say Daniel Craig!)

Hmmm...I see you need a voice of reason here. Someone to talk about the responsibilities of home ownership and decorating.

Too bad I'm not a voice of reason then.

Go for it! You've earnt it. It'll do you both the world of good. I'm a great believer in small breaks, they always make me feel a lot better than the traditional 2-3 weeks away. Don't forget the pictures :-)

Scones!

Roses - Believe me, the responsible homeowner thought has occurred to me. But we had budgeted for a bigger overlap with our rented place than we've needed and the in-laws bought us a load of decorating materials, so we are a bit ahead budget-wise. But it does feel a bit wrong as we've spent so much recently. I think the deposit situation will decide it because we weren't counting on getting any of it back at all so if we do it will be a bonus.

M - Of course, you can have a bag of scones if I'm ever in your area.

M: aww that is so sweet of you! Good job customs didn't stop you though, they might have thought it was drugs, haha.

I thought of that. I actually put a label on the bag that said 'Florida Beach Sand for Miss F and SandDancer', just in case they couldn't figure out what it was. :)

I think that makes it sound even more suspect as those do sound like codenames!

Yes, perhaps 007 should have come after me to see what trouble I was stirring up. :)
