One of my myriad of faults is that I’m scared of missing out on something. This means I’m usually the last to leave the pub just in case something interesting happens and I rarely turn down invitations just in case something is amazing. This goes double for anything I’m invited to that happens to be free.
In the last week, this policy has meant that I was out five nights in a row.
Thursday night – launch party of a vodka bottle (free)
Friday night – pub for friend’s birthday
Saturday night – cinema and meal
Sunday night – work awards ceremony (free)
Monday night – benefit concert
This might be fine if you are twenty-something, but I’m not and even if my mind won’t accept it, my body is there to remind me.
Yesterday, I was exhausted and craving a night in. Then I was offered a ticket to the James Bond Premiere tonight. I deliberated all day. The devil on one shoulder shouting “It is free. It is glamorous. You wouldn’t want to miss out” whilst the angel on the other said “look the last one was rubbish, there is nothing glamorous about sitting in a cold cinema in posh dress waiting around for hours for the queen and you don’t like Bond films anyway”.
In the end I didn’t accept the offer, which is progress for me. As evening approaches I’m glad I’m going to be spending it with the OH, my sofa and television, but a little bit of me still thinks “what if it is really great?”

OMG!! Out of all the things you list here, the Bond ticket is the only one I would have jumped at bigtime. Heck, if they'd offered it to me, I would've accepted it on my way out the door, headed to the airport. :):)
I think you made the right decision. You'd been out all week and a night in, in the warmth, on the sofa with the OH, sounds very appealing to me! No point trekking along unless your heart's in it, methinks.
M - I thought of you when I was dithering over it. But the thing is it was just the plebs premiere. Danial Craig and the Royals are in a cinema across the square so you only get to see them on a cinema screen and don't get any of the goodies that they do.

No, I'm 30-something as it says quite clearly in my profile. The profile picture was taken when I was 29. Perhaps I should update it.
OHHHHH, I wouldn't care. To be in the same square at the same time with Daniel Craig, even theatres apart, would have been so worth the trip.
It's so unlike me, but I can be quite the resourceful person when it comes to these sort of things. I have been known to venture my way into some tight security-laden venues when I really wanted to. You should have seen the night I talked my way backstage in NYC at Saturday Night Live and then spent all night out with the cast at a 'closed' party. Now that was a night! LOL
So given the proximity of your theatre, I just might have figured out a way to actually get to that man, even for just a really good gawk. LOL
I think it's pretty safe to say that a 'celeb' event for a film you're not interested in, is fine to miss.
A night out with friends - definitely not one to miss.
I think you've got good priorities.
It sounds like you did the right thing,. Freebie or not, if you're not biting their hand off immediatly then you can give it a miss.
I'd rather be out with friends than scantily clad "celebs" falling over themselves to get photographed. Rose is right - good priorities.
