Words

Three clever words I've heard this week that I understand, but have never used myself
  • Atrophy
  • Synergy
  • Paradigm

A newly invented word I came across for the first time

  • webinar (a seminar that takes place online)

LOL! I work in High Tech and Business Consulting Services, and I hear and use most of those words daily. In fact, I've grown fairly weary of them by now *sigh*. Other words I'm really tired of:

    leverage
    value-add
    procurement
    right-shoring

    Yuck.

And I get invited to way too many Webinars each week. Ugh!

  2. I don't know "right shoring". What does that mean?

Webinar is such an ugly word. Its not too bad written down, but spoken it just sounds silly.

  3. "Right-shoring" is an evolution of the term "off-shoring" which means to provide services from somewhere else, better, cheaper....as in outsourcing one's manufacturing to India or China.

Right-shoring refers to optimizing where/how you do something -- manufacture clothing, develop software, etc. Is it better to do it domestically, or somewhere else....usually referring to labor arbitrage and cost savings.

    Yawn. :)
