Where do I restart, where do I re-begin after two and half years?

A friend started a blog about a year ago and talking to her about it, I was jealous. Hers is a fashion blog - one of those 'what I wore today' type of things. I didn't want to do that sort of thing - in my case what I wear these days is decided based on whether something is a) clean and b) weather-appropriate - and if it manages to be both, so much the better!

But I remembered how much pleasure I got from this old blog. At first from just having a place to vent, to release, to write.  Then later to share and discuss with people who were friends.

I've been wondering if anyone does still blog or is it old hat? In the intervening years, I've dabbled with Twitter, but 140 characters or less, isn't the ideal mode for someone as verbose as I tend to be.

So I've been thinking more and more about returning to this old blog.  So here I am, letting myself back into a neglected room, feeling slightly sheepish, uncertain that I'll continue, but testing the water here.

Things seem to have changed a bit. The blogger system has moved on - hopefully the technology won't get in the way of my glorious return.

Excuses Excuses

There hasn’t been much in the way of posts here recently because

a) I’m trying to save some money so am not really doing anything worth writing about at the moment
b) I’ve stopped reading the newspaper on my morning commute because it depresses me so I can’t rant about current affairs
c) We are in the process of switching broadband provider and inevitably it isn’t going smoothly so I’m without connection at home,

Just so that you know...

Living Online

The Internet really has revolutionised the way I live. I order my groceries online, email is definitely my preferred means of communication these days and some weeks I feel I’ve spent longer online ‘talking’ to people I’ve never met, via blogs and discussion forums than I have to actual people. I’ve got this blog, a Flickr account, a half-hearted Facebook entry and for some unfathomable reason, umpteen email addresses.

I’ve come to the conclusion that I spend too long online.

So what do I do about this?

Firstly, I’ve gone and got my self a freelance writing job with my favourite site RetroToGo. So not only do I get to indulge my passion for living the past further, I now spend even longer online researching stuff.

Secondly, yesterday I decided to revive the other blog I started last year, about my shameful passion for detective programmes. I don’t expect anyone to read – it isn’t very interesting to anyone except me.

Not exactly the best solution but I was starting to feel a bit unfulfilled recently and regrets over quitting the gallery work were starting to creep in, so at least now I’ve got a few more projects to keep me busy.

Bloggers, We Have Company!

I read yesterday that David Beckham now has a blog. I'm not going to publish its address because frankly I doubt it will be as good as mine ;) (or yours for that matter). And his will be ghost-written - mine isn't.

I bet he has more readers than me already though.

Blog is 1 tomorrow

I'm writing this post now because I doubt I'll get near the computer tomorrow - our gruelling schedule of decorating will commence at 8am tomorrow morning.

So as of tomorrow, I'll have been writing this blog for a whole year. It hasn't really turned out as I expected - firstly I've stuck with it and secondly, it has become a lot more personal than I originally anticipated - I intended to write more review type things but in the end I've ranted alot about work & buying a flat and moaned about lots of other things. And as a result I talk outloud to myself a bit less these days.
